Matterhorn (4478m): Ostwand
Putting an entry to this site, as the summit is in the German part of Switzerland. The quantity of snow is pretty exceptional, the face is very well covered and on Friday it was possible to get up to 4240m and ski from there. The steep rocky part is almost dry, and the last 50m to the summit some mix of rock and ice (though it is not steep, so it is perfectly ok). Unfortunately breaking the trail in the fresh snow was tiring (sometimes 40-50cm deep), so we were very late skiing down. Instead of skiing powder we had to ski very avalanchy wet snow. Even had to wait till the sun started to go away and let the slope cool down and consolidate a little bit to make it safer. Now the upper part is not great because of the damage done by the avalanches and by the sluff we started, but if it snows again, it should be very good again!
